Radio 98 FM is a Brazilian multi platform radio station based in Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais. Operates on the FM dial, at 98.3 MHz, being the first stereo FM radio station in Latin America. When it went on the air on June 12, 1969, still under the name Del Rey FM, the radio was of the ambient genre, broadcasting international music and mainly MPB, which lived its golden age. After a new artistic structure on the radio, progressive rock started to be broadcast on the radio, something remarkable, since other broadcasters did not broadcast the genre. Therefore, the radio broadcast various styles, such as jazz, soul, funk, dance, pop rock and pop. Since 2009, the station has invested in humorous programs and currently focuses on the young talk and rock genre. Radio 98 FM is also known for its vignettes and advanced plastics, which are also used on radios outside the country.
Until 1995, it was owned by the mining company Grupo Bel, being sold to the L'Hermitage Foundation, which owns the Marist private schools brand. Grupo Bel returned to manage the radio in 2010. Since 2015, the radio has maintained a video broadcast on the internet entitled 98 Live, through its own application, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo and Facebook, which is also broadcast on open TV through channel 29 UHF (Analog) and on closed TV through the channels 198 (digital) and 698 (HD) of NET.
In December 2011, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics (IBOPE), it was the young radio audience leader, in close dispute, in the city of Belo Horizonte. Currently, it occupies the eighth overall position between 5am and 12am, behind radios such as 107 FM, Alvorada FM and Jovem Pan FM.
